π± Why Take5β’οΈ Connect Requires Background Location Access
Take5β’οΈ Connect prioritizes the safety of workers, especially those operating remotely or in high-risk environments such as construction sites. To ensure supervisors and managers are informed about who is on-site at any given time, the app offers automatic sign-in and sign-out features based on GPS location. This functionality is designed to minimize human error and enhance safety protocols.
π User-Controlled Location Tracking
Location tracking within the Take5β’οΈ Connect app is entirely user-controlled. Users can adjust their location access settings through their device’s native operating system (iOS or Android). The available options are:
- Always Allow: Enables continuous background location tracking, allowing for automatic sign-in and sign-out at GPS-enabled sites. The app checks your location every 5 minutes or when your device moves 50 meters, even if the app is closed or not in use.
- Allow While Using the App: Restricts location tracking to when the app is open and in the foreground. Automatic sign-out will not operate when the app is closed or running in the background.
- Never: Disables location tracking, requiring manual sign-in and sign-out via QR codes. No location data is recorded or stored.
When location access is set to “Always Allow,” a background process periodically sends your location to the Take5β’οΈ Connect API. The API determines if you are on any of the sites you have access to. If you are not on-site, your location data is discarded. This setting allows for automatic notifications when you arrive on-site to complete the necessary inductions.
π Privacy and Data Security
Take5β’οΈ Connect is committed to protecting user privacy. Location data is only stored when the app determines you are on-site. The app does not share location data with any third-party providers. If you choose the “Never” option, GPS tracking is disabled, and the only way to sign into sites is by scanning the Take5β’οΈConnect site QR codes using the app.
